Prelude to a Celebration

This challenging piece is commissioned for celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Symphonic Winds.

An energetic opening which led to an Ostinato in 3/4 time consist of a 2-bar dance-rhythm pattern, carrying a fluent but challenging melody at the same time.  A Fanfare, unusually inserted inside this opening section, sounded by all Brasses and Timpani which took our remembrance of clock tower of the Star Ferry. Rounding up the first section then carried forward directly into a melancholic and overwhelming middle section with the noble Horns and Trombones, the sweetie Flutes and gentle Clarinets. The Recapitulation sounded after a short & simple Horn Call, with the original energetic power led to a grand finale.
