“The Legend – Cao Xueqin” (“Suo Mung Ruan”) was commissioned by the Beijing Cao Xueqin Cultural Foundation, premiered by the Beijing Young Palace Symphonic Band in January 2015.
Cao was a Chinese novelist, poet, writer, philosopher and painter as well during the Qing Dynasty. An unconventional, versatile man, he came from an eminent and wealthy family which suffered a reversal of fortune after the death of the Kanxi Emperor. He was the author of the famous book “Dream of the Red Chamber”, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of the Chinese literature which is a vivid recreation of an illustrious Cao’s family at its most glorious stage and its subsequent downfall.
The Legend – Cao Xueqin, composed in 13 movements, describes different characters of the author himself and aspects of Cao’s life.
作品應第五屆曹雪芹文化藝術節、由北京曹雪芹文化發展基金會委約創作，並由北京少年宫交响管樂團於2015年1月首演。
曹雪芹，字夢阮。清代小說家、詩人、作家、哲學家、畫家。曹家曾于康熙在位期間顯赫一時，至康熙帝死後遭抄家，自此家道中落，曹遂退而隱居於京城外的西山，着手創作 “紅樓夢” ，隱喻曹家的盛衰。“紅樓夢” 日後亦成為中國古典文學四大名著，繪炙人口，歷久不衰！
