This commissioned work by Les Six will premiere in their 2005 annual concert. Coincidentally it is the Chinese New Year’s time, this work is then carrying moods of celebration but in an improvisatory way. Not comparing with the timbre of traditional Chinese New Year music, it is composed with moves and chords of mainly 3rds and 4ths. This brings a new sonority in the appreciation of Chinese New Year music where also provide much space for individual inspiration.
The Suite is in 4 movements with titles as Celebration time, a New Dimension, Peaceful lots, a full house of prosperous.
是次受 ‘六秀士’ 委約創作此作品٫ 為配合於農曆年間 ‘六秀士’ 之週年音樂會首演 ٫是故此組曲的取名、編排及效果٫ 亦因而與此重要節慶攀上關係。當中雖借用了傳統農曆過年音樂的旋律٫ 但以即興寫作手法、三度及四度疊置的音效等٫ 倍令組曲中四段音樂均帶出另類效果 ٫ 樂曲充滿生機時亦提供不少想像空間٫ 故聽眾在欣賞每段音樂及每位樂手演奏時٫ 可以將閣下的想像力 發揮得淋漓盡致。
組曲共分四段，分別定名為喜氣洋洋、萬象更新、瑞氣祥和、吉慶滿堂 ; 而第四段當中亦將帶有一段鑼鼓喧天的情景。
