“Sen-ji de-ma” is a folk song of the Mongolian ethnic group, popular in the Ordos tribe settlements of the Ikh Juu League in Inner Mongolia. Through a series of vivid metaphors, it portrays the beauty of Senjidema and highlights the steadfast love of young men for the maiden.
Like other Ordos folk songs, the music of “Sen-ji de-ma” is mainly built on the pentatonic scale gong mode. This particular song is in the pentatonic gong mode, the melodic lines rise and fall dramatically, and the emotions are rich and varied. Such a melody is well-suited to expressing broad, free, and unrestrained musical imagery, as well as the bold and hearty character of the Mongolian people.
